CFIHOS Annual meeting 2024

As an active participant in the JIP36 working group, Sharecat is helping shape the CFIHOS standard for use in complex and heavy industries.

Sharecat is proud to be a member of the CFIHOS working group. The CFIHOS group is the driving force for the IOGP (International Oil and Gas Producers Association) sponsored JIP 36 initiative.

As part of our participation in the CFIHOS working group we attended the annual meeting, this year hosted by Petronas in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

For a full week, experts in information management, data standardisation and industry best practice from across the world came together to present and discuss key topics to move the CFIHOS standards forwards.

It was a very productive and enjoyable week, and we look forward to the continued collaboration in the coming 12 months until we meet again at the annual meeting in 2025.

Developing the CFIHOS reference data library (RDL)

Sharecat's contribution to the CFIHOS standard is specifically focused on developing the reference data library (RDL) with members of our Data Services team participating in the RDL working group.

What is CFIHOS?

CFIHOS (pronounced "see-fos"), is an acronym for the "Capital Facilities Information Handover Specification". It defines a standard model and definitions for how facility owners can specify the required information to be handed over from projects so that the facility can be operated.

Importantly, CFIHOS is both document and data focused and includes an approach which allows users to add additional custom elements to the core base specification to ensure that the specification is flexible to meet unique company and facility requirements.

The specification is a join industry program (JIP) being led by the International Oil & Gas Producers Association, where the specification is being developed through a cross industry working group where Sharecat is a participating member.

The overall goal of CFIHOS is to make information handover requirements more standardised to provide savings through simpler and faster handover of information between operators, contractors, equipment manufacturers and suppliers.

CFIHOS is made up of five elements:

1.     Best practice guidance for requirements, rules and principles for information handover

2.     A Reference Data Library which defines equipment types, document types and their associated required data fields

3.     A Data Model to structure data and documents for complex facilities

4.     Guidance for implementing the standard

5.     Outlining the functional requirements for software to use the CFIHOS standard

How can CFIHOS help with master data management?

CFIHOS offers a data standard that is available "off the shelf" to help companies apply best practices and align on common definitions, requirements and processes without having to spend the time and money to develop an in house approach. CFIHOS is fostered by the Oil and Gas industry, but is meant for all industries where operations of complex facilities are required.

CFIHOS can be a strong way to quickly define a core standard to improve your data governance, but as with everything it has its strengths and weaknesses. Our  Data Standardisation services can help companies identify if CFIHOS can be a good approach to adopt in whole or as part of a hybrid company data standard.

About Sharecat

Our approach enables organisations to focus on their individual business needs while participating in a multi-industry digital ecosystem. Creating and magnifying the value for every participating company across supply chains and sectors, changing the game for complex and heavy industries. Importantly, succeeding where narrow approaches using traditional software have been proven, again and again, not to deliver a solution.

The Sharecat Way is realised by our ground-breaking Software as aService (SaaS) platform. It is the impartial and independent digital catalyst for more sustainable and effective information management, improved supply chain engagement and de-bottle necked work practices which also benefits other traditional software.

Established in 1993 we have been a pioneer in digitalisation for heavy and complex industries worldwide (energy, chemical, process, shipping, renewables…….and more).
